    Course Information

Our beautiful championship course gives golfers an unparalleled golfing experience in the heart of Greene County in upstate New York. The Francis Duane, traditionally designed front 9 opened in 1969 giving us the wide sweeping views of the Northern Catskill Mountains. The back 9 was the work of William Gressick, PGA, who in the year 2000, uniquely carved the parkland style course through the rich forest of Thunderhart.

In 2022, the Krasney family became the proud owners of Thunderhart Golf Freehold. The Krasney’s, along with their top notch staff are continually improving and innovating both the course and the facilities to ensure that Thunderhart will continue to remain a premier golfing destination in the Northern Catskills.

  • Hole #1

    Hole #1

The starting hole moves slightly from right to left. There is not much trouble except for trees on the far left hand side of the fairway. This shorter par 4 has a wide open fairway, with a large receptive green to finish off.

    Handicap 17/15

    Red Gold White Blue
    290 300 324 344
  • Hole #2

    Hole #2

This gorgeous par 5 is also one of the toughest holes on the course. With skyscraping trees on both sides of the fairway, it might be best to leave the driver in the bag. Try to aim to the left side of the fairway to get a clean shot to this difficult, elevated green.

    Handicap 1/3/1

    Red Gold White Blue
    383 393 442 462
  • Hole #3

    Hole #3

This is a short and beautiful par 4. Measuring only at 345 yards, this green is reachable for the heavy hitters. However, just like hole 2, trees are abundant on both sides of the fairway. The green is slightly two-tiered,, so be careful with the short game!

    Handicap 9/15/13

    Red Gold White Blue
    265 275 325 345
  • Hole #4

    Hole #4

This average length par 3 plays extremely different then what meets the eye! The green possesses a sharp left to right break. The hill on the left edge of the green plays to your advantage so use it. Don’t go right either; there are tons of trees and a steep hill that can make the second shot nearly impossible.

    Handicap 11/17

    145 155 170 180
  • Hole #5

    Hole #5

Our signature hole overlooks the majestic Catskill Mountains and provides the most beautiful views on the course! For righties, 5 plays perfectly. Pull out the driver and play for a slight fade. The hill will give your ball an extra 30-50 yards of roll depending on the season. Be careful of the bunkers lining the front of the green and the awkward lies that the hill presents.

  • Hole #6

    Hole #6

Need to make up strokes? Here is where to do it. This par 5 turns slightly right to left, with an uphill shot to the green. For the tee shot, aim at both the gorgeous weeping willow tree and the two ponds which are well beyond the reach of the average golfer. The green, however, has massive slopes with two large bunkers that create difficulties for approach shots.

    Handicap 15/9/3

    Red Gold White Blue
    370 390 460 490
  • Hole #7

    Hole #7

This hole is highlighted by the tight window for both righties and lefties off the tee. There is a pond in play on the left side of the fairway and pine trees lining the right side. Other than that it should be smooth sailing. The putting surface is fairly flat, with balls breaking towards the mountains in the backdrop.

    Handicap 5

    Red Gold White Blue
    355 365 375 415
  • Hole #8

    Hole #8

This long, uphill par 3 has the best of golfers confused! The hole measures at 212 yards, but plays more like 230 yards. However if you are a long ball hitter the green is both massive and receptive- with only the deep bunker in the front left to worry about.

    Handicap 7

    Red Gold White Blue
    175 185 202 212
  • Hole #9

    Hole #9

This short par 5 can make or break the round. The pond is clearly in play while hugging the left fairway. The trees are closer than they look. So pull out a 3 wood and play it safe and aim below the hole. This two tiered green is the home to many, many three putts.

    Handicap 13/9

    Red Gold White Blue
    350 360 422 469
  • Hole #10

    Hole #10

The hole is a short par 4 over the pond. You must be able to carry the full distance on the scorecard. This shot is the most intimidating one on the course, but don’t be alarmed! On the bright side, the green is about as straight as they come.

    Handicap 14/8

    Red Gold White Blue
    125 145 161 177
  • Hole #11

    Hole #11

This is the longest par 4 on the course, it is straight but challenging. With plush vegetation aligning both sides of the fairway, people are hesitant to yank out the driver. The putting surface is flat, but tiny and home to the narrowest green on the course.

    Handicap 2

    Red Gold White Blue
    320 340 403 451
  • Hole #12

    Hole #12

This is a lengthy, slightly uphill par 3. Avoid the large front bunker and stick it on the green. Enjoy the views before sinking that hole in one! Just don’t go long as the woods come into play very, very quickly.

    Handicap 8/16

    Red Gold White Blue
    164 175 186 198
  • Hole #13

    Hole #13

This one is an exciting adventure for all golfers with a sharp, right to left par 4 that is engulfed with trees. An iron is the safe play to get around the corner, leaving you with a wedge shot to the pin. Do not get greedy on this crazy hole!

    Handicap 6

    Red Gold White Blue
    335 345 367 402
  • Hole #14

    Hole #14

Here is another difficult hole that is a par 4 which cuts suddenly from left to right, but opens up quite nicely if you get around the edge. Right handers should play a slight fade around the corner.

    Handicap 4/12

    Red Gold White Blue
    265 275 371 385
  • Hole #15

    Hole #15

This short par 3 should not be taken for granted. Even though it measures at 174 yards it takes a straight ball hitter to put it close!

    Handicap 18

    Red Gold White Blue
    130 140 161 174
  • Hole #16

    Hole #16

Do not pull out the driver, do not do it! The pond is only 225 yards out, but invisible from the tee box. The 16 is a shorter par 5, but each shot has the potential of trickling into the woods. The green is easily reachable in two however. The short game shouldn’t be much of a problem as the green is extremely flat and only slightly elevated.

    Handicap 12/10/4

    Red Gold White Blue
    400 410 489 507
  • Hole #17

    Hole #17

You must carry 200 yards to fly the pond on this hole. There is one other smaller pond farther up the fairway, but that should not be the main concern. This green, much like hole 2 is elevated and difficult to stick. Play a high wedge shot to maximize your chances of landing next to the pin.

    Handicap 10/12/14

    Red Gold White Blue
    270 280 335 364
  • Hole #18

    Hole #18

This is the easiest hole of the entire course! A wide open tee shot allows for everyone to pull out the driver. This par 5 is reachable in two, with virtually no trouble surrounding the green. There are shallow bunkers lining the right fairway and one small bunker left of the green. Once you are on the short grass the putting should be straight forward.
